This week on Sound Investing…
The first five months of 2008 haven’t been an easy time for stock investors. The major indexes lost about 6 percent, and it was hard to find many parts of the market that made money. Paul Merriman spends some time at the open of the show talking about what worked and what struggled during this tumultuous time.
Don’t take our word for it: stock pickers usually underperform the market. We talk about a new article in The Wall Street Journal which looks at a Morningstar study that reveals that many active fund managers are falling behind their benchmarks.
Are you ready for retirement? Mentally? Emotionally? Financially? Our guest, James H. Gilbaugh, M.D. discusses all the aspects of leaving your work years behind as we talk about his book, Retirement Rx: The Retirement Docs’ Proven Prescription for Living a Happy, Fulfilling Rest of Your Life.
How did you spend your tax stimulus…on a ferret? Whiskey? Paying down credit card bills? We’ll take a fun look at some of the wacky ways you are spending this windfall.
Our program closes with Paul’s outrage. He looks at a well-known insurance product that even the smartest people in our business can’t understand: annuities. And in this case the purchase of an annuity proved pretty costly.
Have a great week!
