This all-equity portfolio represents what we believe is the very best
way for investors to diversify their investments using mutual funds
available to the public. It’s designed to provide exposure to the nine
most important equity asset classes that we recommend. No single fund
family, including Fidelity and Vanguard, has open funds in all nine.
This portfolio is for investors who are willing and able to go beyond a
single fund family to get what they need to make their money work as
hard as possible for them. Because of the minimum initial investment
requirements for some of these funds, this portfolio requires at least
$100,000. Investors with less money can substitute the Vanguard 500
Index Fund (VFINX) for Fidelity Spartan 500 Index and substitute
Vanguard Developed Markets Index (VDMIX) Fund for Fidelity Spartan
International Index. That would reduce the minimum requirement to
$30,000.
You can also explore our other Suggested Portfolios of no-load funds at
Fidelity, Vanguard, Schwab, T. Rowe Price and Rydex, and for
exchange-traded funds.
